Global Crossing - National Lottery communications decommission In 2002 TST completed a prestigious £1 million project to decommission satellite and data communications equipment provided to National Lottery operator Camelot by telecoms giant Global Crossing. The contract covered installations at more than 3,500 site locations right across the UK, including Camelot headquarters. There are approximately 25,000 lottery terminals installed in retail premises and Post Offices throughout the UK and the Isle of Man. Up until 2002, when Camelot was awarded a new lottery licence, each terminal was connected to the Paknet satellite (VSAT) or X.25 networks. With the granting of the licence it was decided to replace the technology with a predominantly ISDN-based network. As part of the migration to the new network, TST was contracted by Global Crossing to de-commission the existing network equipment. This involved visiting retail sites (for Paknet disconnections) or node sites (for VSAT and X.25). The scope of the work included:
